**Launching our Covid-19 Hardship Fund** Deadline Friday 14 August 2020

Rather than awarding a second WHS Research Bursary this year the Steering Committee has made the decision to establish a Covid-19 Hardship Fund with the additional £300.

It is our aim to modestly support a historian of women and/or gender in Scotland who is enduring financial difficulties as a result of Covid-19.

The award will be made at the discretion of the WHS Bursary Committee and applications will be processed in complete confidence.

Eligibility for the Covid-19 Hardship Fund will be similar to our Research Bursary – applicants should be:

  • a master’s student,
  • a doctoral student,
  • an untenured early career researcher
  • an independent scholar

Applicants should also be undertaking research in women’s and gender history, particularly in Scotland or working on Scottish themes.

However for the Hardship Fund, applicants do not need to be a member of Women’s History Scotland.

There is no application form. Instead applicants should email the Bursary Committee on bursary@womenshistoryscotland.org. Please include your name and email address; your current status (ie PG or doctoral student, ECR, independent scholar); details of your involvement in women’s history in Scotland; and how you have been financially affected by Covid-19. Please write no more than 500 words. Receipt of our Covid-19 Hardship Fund does not need to be linked to an academic output.

The deadline for applications is Friday 14 August 2020.

The Bursary Committee will acknowledge receipt of applications and applicants will be notified of the outcome by 21 August 2020.

We welcome inquiries and questions regarding eligibility. Please contact the Bursary Committee via bursary@womenshistoryscotland.org.

We are grateful to Women’s History Network in informing our approach in providing this fund. Details of their Corona Virus Hardship Fund is available here – https://womenshistorynetwork.org/womens-history-network-corona-virus-hardship-fund/
